Mapping the farm – from fields of rice come fields of data

05 February 2015, Thursday
1:15-2:15 p.m.
Havener Auditorium
IRRI

Abstract:

There is only one experiment at IRRI that has been going on for more than 50 years, but, for more than 50 years, data has been intensively collected from fields all across the IRRI Experiment Station here in Los Baños, Philippines. Sadly, there has been minimal consolidation or standardisation of this data over time, but we are ready to change that. In this seminar, James will present the initial steps in developing an easily accessible and user-friendly geo-referenced database of soil properties, crop performance, and agronomic activity that will form the foundation of the data farm that the IRRI Experiment Station must become. And guess what, OCS will play a positive role in this and you won’t even notice!
