Havener Auditorium, IRRI

To celebrate International Women’s Month, the IRRI Thursday Seminar Series Committee invites all to attend the seminar of Uma Lele, independent scholar and former senior advisor at the World Bank’s Operations Evaluation Department (now called the Independent Evaluation Group).

Uma led complex evaluations of the World Bank’s Forest Strategy, Global Partnership Programs, and the CGIAR.

In this seminar, she will present variations in the patterns of structural transformation across regions/countries, variations in agriculture’s role in the transformation as well as of policies, investments, and institutions that explain the differences. Discussion will focus on trends in the proportion of the female labor force to the total agricultural labor force in key Asian countries, and the implications of the structural transformation on these trends.
