Abstract:

The Generation Challenge Programme (GCP) is developing the Integrated Breeding Platform or IBP, a suite of informatics tools aimed at facilitating the integration of molecular breeding technologies into developing country breeding programs. The informatics tools within the IBP will support all steps for various potential breeding schemes, from traditional breeding to increased use of molecular markers, up to the use of genomic selection. These include tools that help in the design of breeding projects, selection of parents, management of crosses and derived progenies, field trials, selection and use of markers for marker-assisted selection, implementation of advanced methods such as marker-assisted recurrent selection and genomic selection, and breeding decision. A pilot version of the IBP will be launched at the end of January 2013 and will be ready for implementation by interested breeding programs at CGIAR centers, NARES, and small seed companies in developing countries.
