Abstract:

The presentation will summarize recent adoption and impact assessment studies on stress-tolerant rice varieties in South Asia. Specifically, it will focus on the diffusion of Swarna-Sub1 in four states in Eastern India, where its distribution has been most intensive. The methodology of area estimates using data from 6,000 households in India will be explained, and the area estimates of Swarna-Sub1 and other popular rice varieties will be presented. In this seminar, recommendations for future distribution of Swarna-Sub1 and other stress-tolerant rice varieties will also be discussed.
