IRRI 2035: Investing in the future

An IRRI Seminar

By Robert S. Zeigler
Director general
International Rice Research Institute

1315-1445 H, Thursday, 30 May 2013
D.L. Umali Auditorium, IRRI

(This seminar is open to IRRI staff only.)

The world faces unprecedented challenges to human welfare and food security, and IRRI is at the forefront of global efforts to overcome these challenges.

The key challenge that IRRI must overcome is to generate the best science to enhance and sustain rice productivity in the face of climate change, scarce land and water, and continued rapid population growth. To succeed, IRRI must mobilize the resources to build and manage the infrastructure and human capital necessary for research excellence, as well as the global networks—public and private—crucial to broad and inclusive impact.

Bob Zeigler will lay out IRRI’s vision of its way forward, building on its success in implementing the Institute’s Strategic Plan 2007-15: Bringing Hope, Changing Lives, and as directed by the IRRI Board of Trustees in April 2013.
